A long-course season is a year-long project, and most of it is invisible from race day. The athlete picks an “A” race (usually a full-distance IRONMAN or a World Championship slot) and works backward through a 70.3 build race, a long base block, and a winter of unglamorous volume. This calendar gives you the fixed dates to anchor a 2027 plan.
IRONMAN has now published its 2027 schedule, and three things stand out for planning: ten full-distance races in the US and Canada, one of them brand new in Montana; the two World Championships six weeks apart, Chattanooga in late August and Kona in October; and registration that is already well under way, with IRONMAN Texas, Frankfurt, Hamburg and the 70.3 at Mont-Tremblant all reported sold out before the 2026 season had even finished.
How to read these dates
IRONMAN released its 2027 calendar in pieces through the fall of 2026: the Pro Series schedule in September, then the full US and Canada schedule. Each entry is graded:
- Confirmed: IRONMAN has announced this exact date, and nothing we found contradicts it.
- Provisional: listed for 2027 but not yet announced by IRONMAN itself, or announced with something that doesn’t add up.
- TBD / Pattern: the date isn’t published yet; the recurring slot is given for planning only.

Still on the 2026 calendar
The 2026 long-course season is nearly done. The last North American full of the year, IRONMAN Florida, is November 7, and IRONMAN Cozumel follows on November 22. Everything below is 2027.
World Championships
| Race | Distance | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship | 70.3 | Aug 28–29, 2027 | Confirmed | Chattanooga, Tennessee |
| IRONMAN World Championship | 140.6 | Oct 9, 2027 | Confirmed | Kailua-Kona, Hawaii |
Six weeks apart. The 70.3 Worlds return to Chattanooga on August 28–29, and Kona follows on October 9. An athlete qualified for both gets about six weeks between them: enough to recover and sharpen, not enough for a second full build. Plan it as one season with two peaks, not two seasons. Since 2026 the men’s and women’s races at Kona share a single race day, so there’s no longer a Kona-or-Nice split to plan around. Chattanooga qualifying is already open: select 70.3 races have been awarding 2027 slots since July 2026.
North American full-distance IRONMAN
| Race | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| IRONMAN Texas — North American Championship | Apr 24, 2027 | Confirmed | The Woodlands, Texas |
| IRONMAN Jacksonville | May 16, 2027 | Confirmed | Jacksonville, Florida |
| IRONMAN Lake Placid | Jul 25, 2027 | Confirmed | Lake Placid, New York |
| IRONMAN Canada — Ottawa | Aug 8, 2027 | Confirmed | Ottawa, Ontario, Canada |
| IRONMAN Montana (new) | Aug 15, 2027 | Confirmed | Great Falls, Montana |
| IRONMAN Wisconsin | Sept 12, 2027 | Confirmed | Madison, Wisconsin |
| IRONMAN Maryland | Sept 18, 2027 | Confirmed | Cambridge, Maryland |
| IRONMAN Chattanooga | Sept 26, 2027 | Confirmed | Chattanooga, Tennessee |
| IRONMAN California | Oct 24, 2027 | Confirmed | Sacramento, California |
| IRONMAN Florida | Nov 6, 2027 | Confirmed | Panama City Beach, Florida |
That’s the whole list. IRONMAN’s 2027 US and Canada schedule has exactly ten full-distance races, so if an athlete’s goal full isn’t in this table, it isn’t on IRONMAN’s 2027 calendar in either country. Texas, Maryland and Florida are Saturday races; the other seven are on Sundays. Book travel accordingly.
IRONMAN Montana is the new one. It debuts in Great Falls on August 15, at about 3,300 feet: a single-loop swim in the Missouri River, a one-loop bike west toward the Rocky Mountain Front with roughly 3,000 feet of climbing, and a run along the river. A first-year race has no course history, no split data and no race reports from athletes who’ve done it. Build extra margin into the pacing and fueling plan, and treat the bike course numbers as estimates until the athlete has ridden it.
Marquee 70.3 build & qualifier races
The half is where the full gets rehearsed. These are the North American 70.3s athletes most often slot into a full-distance build or use to chase a Worlds slot.
| Race | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside | Apr 3, 2027 | Confirmed | Oceanside, California |
| IRONMAN 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley — North American Championship | May 23, 2027 | Confirmed | State College, Pennsylvania |
| IRONMAN 70.3 Lake George (new) | Jun 13, 2027 | Confirmed | Lake George, New York |
| IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant | Late June 2027 | Provisional | Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada |
| IRONMAN 70.3 Utah (new) | Aug 21, 2027 | Confirmed | Orem, Utah |
The US and Canada 70.3 season runs from 70.3 Dallas on March 14 to 70.3 La Quinta on December 5. Oceanside is the traditional West Coast opener, and both it and Pennsylvania Happy Valley are Pro Series stops, so expect deep fields.
Why Mont-Tremblant is Provisional: IRONMAN’s own Pro Series announcement lists it on June 21, 2027, which is a Monday. That’s almost certainly a typo for the weekend, so we’re holding the grade until the race page shows the day. It may not matter for your athletes anyway: 2027 entries reportedly sold out in under six hours.
Two new 70.3s. Lake George (June 13) sits in New York’s southern Adirondacks, north of Albany. Utah (August 21) swims in Deer Creek Reservoir, runs the Provo River Parkway and finishes in Orem. Utah falls one week before the 70.3 Worlds, so for anyone racing Chattanooga it’s a race to skip, not a tune-up.
Discontinued — do not build a season around these
These races anchored a lot of season plans, and they no longer exist:
- IRONMAN Arizona (Tempe): the November 16, 2025 race was the final edition after 21 years, ended by course-permitting conflicts with Tempe’s ongoing development. Lake Havasu City was reported to be in talks to host a replacement, but no Arizona full-distance race is on IRONMAN’s 2027 schedule.
- IRONMAN 70.3 St. George: the iconic St. George course held its final race in 2025, and its North American Championship designation went with it (in 2027 that title belongs to Pennsylvania Happy Valley).
- IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant (full 140.6): discontinued after 2023. Only the 70.3 and 5150 remain at Tremblant, and the 70.3 rejoins the Pro Series in 2027.
If an athlete has any of these on a goal board, that’s a conversation to have now, not in October.
Notable international fulls
North American athletes regularly travel for these:
| Race | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| IRONMAN New Zealand | Mar 6, 2027 | Confirmed | Taupō, New Zealand |
| IRONMAN Lanzarote | May 15, 2027 | Confirmed | Lanzarote, Spain |
| IRONMAN Hamburg | Jun 6, 2027 | Provisional | Hamburg, Germany |
| IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt | Jun 27, 2027 | Confirmed | Frankfurt, Germany |
| IRONMAN Cozumel | Late November 2027 | Pattern | Cozumel, Mexico |
Lanzarote joins the Pro Series for 2027, and Frankfurt hosts both the men’s and women’s European Championship races. Hamburg’s June 6 date comes from race listings rather than an IRONMAN announcement, so it stays Provisional for now. Both German races are already listed as sold out.
Using the calendar
Pick the “A” race first, then everything else falls into place: a 70.3 build race 8–12 weeks out, a long aggregation block before that, and a base that started the previous winter. Two filters come before any of that. First, the discontinued list: make sure the goal race still exists. Second, registration: most 2027 races are already open and some are sold out, so confirm the athlete can actually get in before you write sixteen weeks of training toward it. Then drop the confirmed dates into a Smagpie athlete calendar and periodize backward from race day.
