How do I lend a team watch to an athlete who doesn't have one? #
- Coach
Add the watch once in Team Settings → Loaner Gear, connecting it through a Garmin or Coros account that belongs to the team. Then click Lend on the watch’s row and pick the athlete and how long they’ll have it.
Add the watch once
- Open Team Settings → Loaner Gear and click Add gear.
- Name the watch (for example “Forerunner #1”). Athletes see this name too. Pick the brand.
- Sign in to a Garmin or Coros account that belongs to the team: not yours, and not an athlete’s. Then pair the loaner watch to that account in the Garmin or Coros app.
A loaner is a shared account, not a single device. Everything recorded on that account goes to whoever you’ve lent it to, so give each watch its own account. Smagpie never asks for the account’s password; you can keep a note of which login it is.
Lend it
- On the watch’s row, click Lend.
- Pick the athlete and how long: until tonight, until a date, or until you take it back.
- Smagpie shows what will happen before you confirm.
While it’s lent
- The athlete’s workouts go to the watch if they have an Athlete Pass, and every activity recorded on it lands in their log.
- The athlete sees “You have [watch] until [date]” on their Integrations page. They don’t connect anything themselves.
- From the watch’s row you can Return it, Lend to someone else, Extend the loan, Rename and note, Reconnect the account if the connection stops working, or Remove the watch.
- When you take it back, the athlete’s remaining workouts come off it and the watch is back on the shelf.
- The Coach Hub shows a Loaner Gear strip with every piece of gear: what’s on the shelf, who has what and when it’s due back. You can Lend or Return from there too.
How do I set up a bike trainer for athletes to share? #
- Coach
Open Team Settings → Loaner Gear, click Add gear and choose A bike trainer. Smagpie reaches the trainer through a free Intervals.icu account that belongs to the team, and Intervals.icu passes each workout on to Zwift or Rouvy.
Set it up once
- Create a free Intervals.icu account for the team. Not your own.
- In that account’s settings, connect Zwift or Rouvy.
- Use that same Zwift or Rouvy login on the trainer.
- Set the same FTP in Intervals.icu and in the trainer app. Any number works, as long as the two match.
- Back in Smagpie, sign in to the shared Intervals.icu account and approve Smagpie.
Check which Intervals.icu account your browser is signed in to before you approve. If it’s your own, your rides will go to whoever borrows the trainer.
Lend it
Lend the trainer like a watch: click Lend on its row, pick the athlete and how long. Their workouts go to the trainer in their own watts, so nothing changes on the trainer between athletes. In ERG mode, the trainer holds the power for them.
Heart-rate steps are the exception: they use the heart-rate settings of the shared Intervals.icu account, not the athlete’s.
Why does Smagpie ask for an FTP when I lend the trainer? #
- Coach
Smagpie sends trainer workouts in the athlete’s own watts, so it needs their cycling FTP. If the athlete has no cycling FTP on file, the Lend dialog asks for an estimate (between 10 and 2000 watts), so the trainer sets safe power targets from the first ride.
- The estimate is saved as the athlete’s cycling FTP. Workouts and ride scores use it, and you can change it later on their Benchmarks page.
- An athlete who already has a cycling FTP keeps it. Smagpie shows it in the Lend dialog and never overwrites it.
- Watches don’t ask for an FTP.
What are unclaimed rides on loaner gear? #
- Coach
An unclaimed ride is an activity recorded on loaner gear while it wasn’t lent to anyone, so Smagpie doesn’t know whose it is. Nothing is thrown away: it waits in Loaner Gear for you to decide.
When there are unclaimed rides, an amber banner appears in Team Settings → Loaner Gear, and a chip with the count appears on the Coach Hub’s Loaner Gear strip. Click Review to see the list. For each ride you can:
- Give to [athlete] hands it to the athlete Smagpie suggests, in one click. If that turns out to be wrong, you can move it afterwards.
- Someone else… lets you pick another athlete from your roster.
- Discard throws it away, after you confirm.
Unclaimed rides are discarded after 30 days.
A ride landed on the wrong athlete. How do I move it? #
- Coach
Open the ride’s workout detail. Rides recorded on loaner gear show a Recorded on [gear] · loaner chip. Click the menu next to it, choose Move to another athlete…, and pick the athlete who actually rode.
Smagpie then treats the ride as theirs:
- It’s scored again against the new athlete’s own benchmarks, and both athletes’ fitness numbers are updated.
- It’s matched to the new athlete’s assigned workout for that day, if there is one.
- The RPE and feel are cleared, because they described the other athlete. The new athlete can enter their own.
- Notes stay with the first athlete, because they were written by or to them.
Only coaches can move a ride. Athletes see the loaner chip but not the menu.
I've been lent a team watch or trainer. What do I need to do? #

- Parent
You don’t need to connect anything. When your coach lends you a team watch or bike trainer, your Integrations page shows what you have and until when.
- With an Athlete Pass, the workouts your coach assigns are sent to the gear in your own paces, zones or watts. Without a pass, what you record still lands in your log, but workouts aren’t sent to the gear.
- Everything recorded on the gear while you have it goes into your log, even if it uploads after you’ve handed it back.
- When the loan ends, your remaining workouts come off the gear, and it’s ready for the next athlete.
