What is an Athlete Pass and who pays for it? #
- Coach
- Athlete
- Parent
An Athlete Pass unlocks the full Smagpie experience for one athlete: workouts scaled to their own zones, workouts sent to their watch, and the Benchmarks page. A coach can buy passes for the team, or an athlete (or their family) can buy their own; either way it’s a one-off payment, not a subscription, so there’s nothing to cancel.
Coach accounts are always free and don’t need a pass. Current prices are on the pricing page.
How an athlete gets a pass
- From their coach. The coach buys passes for the team and assigns one to the athlete.
- Earned by the team. For every 10 passes bought on a team, the team earns a free community pass, and the coach can assign it to an athlete who needs it.
- Bought by the athlete. An athlete can buy their own pass from the Athlete Pass page.
- Free trial. A new athlete gets a 14-day trial of full access automatically when they confirm their email address. The Athlete Pass page shows how many days are left.
Athletes see their status under Athlete Pass in the menu: whether they’re covered, by whom, and until when.
For coaches: buying and assigning passes
- Open License Management and click Purchase Passes.
- Once passes are in your pool, open Athletes. On an athlete without a pass, open the row’s menu and choose Allocate Team License.
Passes you’ve bought but not assigned wait in your pool; the pricing page explains when each kind of pass starts and ends.
Without a pass
Athletes without a pass can still see their assigned workouts, and their completed activities still come in from their watch. Workouts aren’t sent to the watch, and Benchmarks isn’t in the menu.
